Today I had the opportunity to attend NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s State of the City Address at City Hall. Her speech touched on a number of issues that will help to bolster our city’s economy for the future as well as provide economic opportunity to a shrinking middle class. If these policy proposals are implemented, I look forward to seeing the intended results of growth in the middle class and a greater pathway to economic success for working class New Yorkers. To get to this point, we must push harder for quality education opportunities for all; a path that starts with early childhood education; continues through well funded and creative elementary and middle schools; high schools committed to college readiness and preparation; and finishes with an affordable college education that gives students the best chance to succeed in our evolving economy.
