Last night was truly an eventful evening as I had the privilege of attending several events important to our community, our history and our culture.
I stared my evening at our Northern Manhattan Tenants Forum, informing tenants about their rights, how to address problems in their buildings with the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and their landlords. I was joined by Senator Adriano Espaillat and Assemblywoman Gabriela Rosa and dozens of residents, looking to have their questions and concerns addressed.
Then I attended the Malcolm X memorial event at the Malcolm and Betty Shabazz Center, the place of his assassination, where we celebrated his life, his passion for social justice and reflected on how his life resonates with today’s issues.
Finally I attended the Gran Parada Dominicana at Marina Del Rey Restaurant in the Bronx, bridging the two vibrant Dominican communities in the BX and Washington Heights in celebration of Dominican heritage and Independence Day.
It was a wonderful evening full of wonderful people!
