Standing with residents of buildings 558, 560, and 562 West 183rd St. to demand the owner of the buildings, Eduardo Juarez, either make the necessary repairs immediately or sell the buildings to a responsible landlord.
Residents were recently left without heat or electricity for close to 3 weeks when Juarez decided to stop paying his bills as a way to push residents out of the building. His goal was to sell the buildings with all the apartments vacated so that he could receive a higher price for them. Tenants in the buildings would not give in to these tactics however and organized to fight back.
Now, the City Department of Housing Preservation and Development will be utilizing their Proactive Inspection Initiative as a way to hold Juarez accountable for all violations in all 7 buildings that he owns on this street.
This is a warning to all landlords who engage in harassment and negligence, the city and its elected officials are watching you and will hold you accountable for your actions. Our residents have rights and we will see that they are upheld!
